Hello dear watchers,

as of today XNALara is 7 years old! Yes it has been around for that much time already! It has surely come a long way since it's original release on the 20th February 2009.

For more info on its origin check out the original thread here. Most of XPS development after the XNALara time can be read about in this groups journals.

This new version fixes a couple of bugs and has nice new features added! Check the details below.

PS: A little Easter Egg is hidden in this version again! The above text holds the key to display it ;)


What's new?

1. New Features

View and Camera Controls:
-> The field for bone rotation and movement can be operated with the mouse wheel in 4 speeds. Typed in values for rotation will be +-180° (type in 270° and it will be converted to -90°)
Operating Speeds:
Precision: Mouse Wheel + Ctrl (or Right Mouse Button)
Normal: Mouse Wheel
Fast: Mouse Wheel + Shift
Very fast: Mouse Wheel + Shift + Ctrl

-> Move multiple models at the same time by pressing Ctrl+LMB, the new shortcut for positioning them on the ground is Ctrl+Alt+LMB


New Features:
-> Optional Items can now be grouped into Sub Menus.
Example: 22_Head|Glasses.frame_0.3_40_40 will result in the menu Head->Glasses. This is useful for models with many optional items that you can now sort by type.
(The '|' sign seperates it. You can do this sign by holding Alt and pressing 124 on your numPad)

-> User written shaders written in the HLSL language can be added now!
Three demo shaders, with eight Techniques (example for developers), are included inside the new shader folder "XNALara_XPS\shaders" and are called "XL GrayScale.fx" , "XL Sepia.fx" and "XL Shading"
When started, XPS read this shader source files and compile the source code. The menu items in the "Shader" menu will be added.
Be aware, the "demo" shaders ignore all settings inside the mesh (RGs and parameter) and all Control GUI Settings (like the light Settings) except the "Postprocessing Parameters". Otherwise, the demo is to complex to be a example.



Additional Updates:
-> New Menu item 'Modify>Clean Armature' deals with errors that can occur when using features like  'Options->Add to ...', 'Modify->Save scene as .mesh (Merge models)' or 'Save Generic_Item->Remove unused bones'. Here is what it does:
- Fix missing or wrong root ground bone
- rename duplicated bone names
- rename 'wrong' bone names like bones ('_' in name or upper case letters)
- remove unused bones
- correct the bone counter
- convert texture images to .png format

-> A new Vignette shader has been added in the Post Processing Window

-> Optional Items and User Written Shader Menus stay sticky (opened) now. This will allow you to quickly switch between Optional Items and Shaders without the need of opening the menu everytime again.

Fixes:
-> Images with 'Bloom' and 'Vignette' Effects can be saved with resolutions bigger than 100% now!

-> The following Dialogs now support longer item names:
File->Save pose
Commands->Mirror
Commands->Flip
Options->Add to
Options->Make item optional
Modify-> (All Features)

-> 'Cast shadow' settings are now saved inside the .scene files

-> Bugfix for 'File-> Reload Textures (F8)' where it would crash when reloading textures on a secondary model in the scene

Fixes in this:
- Images using Bloom and Vignette can now be saved with more than 100% in Quick Save Image (F5)
- User written shader menu stays sticky when the shader has no subgroup

- Optional menu items stays for ungrouped items too
- V and Alt+V works now also for optional items with sub menus
- "Load Scene" can now load if "load scene" is not marked and when the .scene contains items with "optional items"

Modify / Clean armature is not case sensitive so the bones are renamed from uppercase to lowercase (e.g. RightHandThumb1 -> righthandthumb1) and poses can't be loaded.

Your armature with uppercase letters is wrog --- your pose files are wrong


XNALara/XPS is case sensitive. All bone names have to be in lowercase !!! XNALara differentiating between capital and lowercase letters. Therfore, the bone Name ''RightHandThumb"1 is completely wrong and not allowed. ... Just try "Commands-->mirror pose" ;)

Oh sorry. I didn't know that bone names must be lower case ! . Anyway I solved the problem by saving the "optimized" XPS file, opening the old pose files with a decent text editor and lowercased everything.
Thank you for this awesome program, I made some nice poses and imported them in Blender. :)

Can someone explain it a little better as how to do this? Is it done in the ascii file or can it be done from the GUI??

This is an awesome feature just a little stumped on how to use it Sweating a little...

- You can do this  in the ascii file
- And you can do it from the GUI ( Ctrl+T eq "Modify-->Material Editor-->Render parameter-->Optional Item"

not sure if this is a bug or not, but would it be possible to make the "emission" rendergroup support the 3rd light in xps?

it works with the 1st 2 lights, but the moment the 3rd light is used the texture becomes completely transparent?

this is the error i mean?

You post a Image with "XPS 11.0" ... on the "XPS 11.5" thread? LOL

- The "emisson RGs" supports the 3rd light source.
- There are more than one emission rendergroup" ... 30/31 36/37 38/39 ... I do not know what you have used.

ohhh ooopsie! i thought i had updated xps xD sorry about that. i tested with the new update and it is still the same. it also does the same thing if you check the force shader option in the lights menu.

the render group i have used for this model was 38/39 i beleive. and its my model of Midna here --> Hyrule Warriors - Midna Imp Form

it happens with any model i have worked on which uses this emmission group.


im not 100% clear with the link to that comment which i need to post? is it a similar issue?


sorry to be a pain xD just wondered why this was happening. its not a total problem, i simply wondered xD

i have this weird bug with xnalara when it sometimes freezes and u can't kill the program with anything (task manager, unlocker, etc. doesn't work), so u need to restart the computer, any ideas ?

The Program not working.By all MOdels came this  no Mesh file by the Version 11.5 by VErion 11 no errors.
What is wrong plase fixed the Mesh file error.

I wanted to say thanks again for the sub-menus in the Optional Items list.
That really came in handy for my last mod.  The Optional Items list doesn't disappear
off the page anymore!  :) (Smile)

That didn't come out right.  What I meant was that my Optional Items list contained so
many objects that the list went off the screen!  :) (Smile)

Sorry if I might have missed out on this but is there a new implementation for moving models around the 3D space? The previous version 11.4 I pressing down "Ctrl" and your selected model can be moved around with your mouse but in 11.5 it seems not to work.

EDIT oh my bad its CTRL+ALT+LMB now :)

I Save/Export Models with convert image to .png, why does .tga or .jpg Image Extension come also.

Its a Copy of Same Image, one for .png with Original .tga or .jpg

The XPS team has my thanks and gratitude for what you guys have done. Thank you for everything! I do however have an issue with XPS versions from 11.1 and now that I never had with 11.0 and below. The bone weight of one of my meshmods models and possibly models like it. This has never happened to me as stated in XPS 11.0 and below and it annoys me. Did something change in the scripts that causes models like mine to mess up like so? I hope this can be looked at and can be addressed. Thank you and here is a pic of my issue that hopefully depicts my issue.

One more question I have is in the previous versions, the shift + left mouse button shortcut would move models fast around the map. Has that been taken out or updated to a new shortcut I am unaware of?

The XPS team has my thanks! This is one of the best updates ever and adds more functionality to the program!
With the addition of the new shaders, my modeling life is almost complete! Because I'm not a programmer nor have the knowledge about it, all I have to do now is wait for someone to create a custom cel shading shader and I won't need anything else from XPS!

Thank you so much again for these awesome updates and I'm looking forward to the future! Glomp!
