XnaPosingStudio  (XPS), also known as XNALara, is a 3D Model Viewing and Posing program for MS Windows, which allows everyone to create amazing Pictures and even frame by frame animations easily and in real-time. The program is free of any charge along with thousands of user provided Content available.

Hello dear watchers,

this release adds a few nice features and fixes a couple of bugs.


What's new?

Features:
-> Reduce Textures on the fly in the Material Editor (RMB click at "Diffuse image preview" ... Ctrl+RMB click to increases the Texture resolution)
-> "Commands-->Resize large textures" creates a new model folder as "texture pack" (double dash notation) and resize all texture images to 512x512 pixel. If you have performance or memory trouble, then use this feature and be happy. The original model will be untouched. The new model will be loaded immediately.
-> If XPS will not launch up, then the app create now a log file called "XPS_Errorlog.txt" with all "Detail" informations.
-> Disable/Enable lightmaps and specular maps
-> "Commands-->Swap selected item" lets you swap the selected item to a different one
-> "Material Editor-->Select another mesh part"
-> Drag & Drop model folders into the "Render Window"


Fixes:
-> Bugs with mirroring
-> Errors on startup

i'm about to buy a beast of a gaming laptop, either the msi gs63vr or something from alienware with similar specs. what i want to know is, is there a gpu or cpu thats not recommended for this program? my future machine will come equipped with a gtx 1060 and a quad core i7 so i wanted to be sure what is or isn't recommended.

Hah! Dude, you should be fine, heck more than fine. I've been using an integrated Intel HD graphics card and the program can handle up to about 5 or so models. But I've read before that XPS can only utilize 2 GB of ram, so that may be an issue.

Hi, I'm interested in starting with 3D modeling, but my computer isn't good enough for Daz studio. It's a small mobile computer with Window 7 and Intel Atom processor, I don't know if there is specific requirements for using XPS, how can I know if it's compabtible to my computer or not ?

Hi,
XPS is an 'realtime posing program'. This means, the 'video card' (GPU) makes the posing and rendering.
Your 'Intel Atom processor' (CPU) have an integrated 'Intel® HD Graphics' GPU, and this GPU is sufficient for XPS.
 
Therefore, your small mobile computer with Window 7 can running XPS. Your PC power should massive enough to be effective

As far as I know, the minimum system requirements 
for using XPS are:
  •  OS = Windows XP (Windows 7 recommended)  
    • Processor = 1.8GHz Intel or equivalent AMD CPU   
    • Memory = 2 GB RAM  
    •  Hard Drive = 1 GB  
    •  Sound Card = DirectX 9.0c compatible (Used for the mini game ... shortcut Ctrl+G)  
    •  Direct X = DirectX 9.0c August 2008  
    •  Input = Keyboard / Mouse   
    •  Video Card = 256 MB (with Shader 2.0 support); Shader model 3.0 recommended.
      Supported Chipsets: Radeon 9500-9800/X300-X600 or greater;  GeForce FX/PCX or greater; Intel video cards are not officially supported , but with Windows 7 and Windows 8 (Not Windows 10), Intel GMA 900 or greater should works  


I am puzzled that no official requirements have been published here.. ;)

The only problem is certenly on my side because I dont know wher to put Hairstyles, clothes and accessories to use on a base model ^^"

And for hairstyles (without bodies) I do the same ? Or it works differents ? Wher to put them when I download them ? Also I wonder if there is a way to get Heteochromia eyes too, example: If I want one blue and one green ?

Right, for hairstyles ... it is the same.
If you want to MAKE hair (without bodies) ... like this one: moogleoutfitters.deviantart.co… ... just skipping "
3. Load the second model"
If you HAVE a hair ... and you want to add it to an other model, then it is exactly the same. The hair is loaded as the second model.

"Wher to put them when I download them ? " .... I do not understand the question. :(

To make Heteochromia eyes ... is difficult (some more effort). Most models have the left and the right eye on the same part ... and both share the same texture. But it is the same guide. ;)
You can load the character model twice times (Step 1 and step 3 of the guide).
After this ... select ... for the 1. model ... the right eye bone ... press the Rotate/Move/Scale button to "Scale" ... and move the right slider to zero. Now the eye is invisible.
After this ... select ... for the 2. model ... the left eye bone ... press the Rotate/Move/Scale button to "Scale" ... and move the right slider to zero. Now the eye is invisible.
Now, "3a. Select ”Options Make Items Optional“ and select all parts from the 2nd model ... except the eye ...  to remove it.
(You have now 1 model without the right eye ... and the 2nd model, consisting of only .. the left eye. :) )
Continue with 5. and 6.
Use the "Modify-Material Editor" to "switch" the "diffuse texture" image of one eye (switch the blue image to the green eye image)
Save everthing with step 7.

Also, the question you didn't understand was: If I downloaded a hair style, in what file do I have to put it ? But reading your response I supose it will be in the "data" file like other models :)

Wel no I can test that by myself and try to make something out of it ;)

Right, it belong into the data folder (recommended
) ... if you want to open it with "File->Add item(s) ..."

or in any other folder of your user account ... if you only want to load it with "Modify->Load Generic Item ..." or with mouse "Drag and Drop" into 3D render window  comments.deviantart.com/1/6222…

BTW: I can (will) ask  Grummel83 for permission to modify his guide ... to make "Heteochromia eyes (one blue and one green)"

Its gonna run fine i guess. my Laptop from 2009 and Win7 64bit launch fine as long had istalled framework and other required files
Same thing modeling. but still some models work slow because had too much polygons,

just a simple question. where can I find the resources for user written shader for xps 11.7 or 11.8. i copy a lot of .fx file to the shader folder, none of them works well, my model just becomes all gray. so where I can find right .fx files for shader in xps ??

If you dislike gray ... then use this resources for user written shader for xps 11.7 or 11.8.

I just read the !ReadMe file that says

I installed the Net Framework thingy and bam.

Then rename the .xps models to .mesh
The XNALara.org Admin saying you could rename xxx.xps to xxx.mesh and xps will still load it. tis same binary format

thanks but i didn't explain correctly, I'm using this xps version (11.8 resize edition) and when a want to open a xps model it doesn't show textures (eyes, hair, legs etc) only shows the bone names on the main screen but it shows mesh/ascii models :v

You dit explain it correctly. I didn't explain this "workaround" (a method for overcoming a problem or limitation in a program or system) correctly.

IF
   it shows mesh models, and when U want to open a xps model it doesn't show textures (eyes, hair, legs etc) only it shows the bone names on the main screen, 
THEN
   
you could rename xps.xps to generic_item.mesh
BECAUSE of this,
   XPS version 11.8 (resize edition) can show it. Both (xps and mesh) are the same binary format ...
.AND.
   on YOUR computer system, XPS only works with mesh (and mesh.ascii ) models (and NOT with xps model format)

BTW:
D1m0s , one of the XPS developers, saying  "After Windows 10 Anniversary update he have the same issue when he use Intel's integrated GPU (HD 530) to run XPS. On dedicated GPU it runs flawlessly... So it might be OS or driver problem. For now my advice is to use dedicated GPU for XPS ;) (Wink)"

Let's waiting us ... until any of the XNALARAITALIA staff members ... will join in ... and explain it correctly ... iif you don't want to believe semorythe administrator of www.xnalara.org

Hi,  I tried to drag&drop a folder containing several textures and an XPS file into XPS 11.8 and I get an error popup..."Could not load this model. This model is not created with GeMeshAsciiToBin version 2.1"

I don't know what to do, do I need an older version of XPS or what?

I'm totally new to all of this, had to install several things just to get XPS to install, spent an hour installing things like the XNA, NET 3.0 and 3.5, some windows xbox game store thingie, and the windows visual studio community edition (and some patches for it all to work on win10 that some tutorial said it needed too lol).

I got the Max Caulfield (from Life is Strange) file here on DA, but now i don't remember exactly from who, they have like all the characters in a google-drive for DL, if that helps lol

*Edit:  Seems only the one file gets this error, the other files do open, so i guess it's a problem with that one file :D

hello everyone!

when i tried to load a character, it looks normal as usual like this:

Anyone knows how drag n' drop feature works? I have 11.8 I'm trying to just drag model folder and tried xps file too but a "block" Windows icon appears and not working.

Is there anything I need to do before?

The drag and drop feature works by dragging the "Generic_Item.mesh" / "Generic+Item.Mesh.Ascii" / or "Xps.xps" file to the Xnalara window that displays the model

So I tried it and it was searching my other model folders and when it didn't have the right thing it offered to download it from online so I'd strongly recommend my way as it's quick and painless lol

It's not about which method is better for you, everybody has different methods of storing their folders. It's about listing available methods. I use both of these depending on situation. Anyhow OP asked for folders, but now from the video it looks like he's trying to load stuff from a remote device, which may be his problem.

I use also both of these depending on situation ... and I  load stuff from a external drive, without poblem. comments.deviantart.com/1/6580… ... you CAN load from any drive in your system expect network devices.
